ImpactMatters, a 501(c)3, conducts “impact audits” of nonprofits to rigorously estimate their philanthropic impact, compelling them and their funders to make evidenced-based decisions.
Woeful accountability plagues the philanthropic marketplace. Our impact audits provide a creative, promising solution. Impact audits draw from internal and external data to generate the best estimate of philanthropic impact. The audits scrutinize what nonprofits claim about impact, identifying whether the nonprofit’s claims are tethered to evidence. As such, they help donors decide where their money is best spent and help nonprofits identify what they are doing well and, yes, not-so-well.
Our vision is ambitious. We seek to reshape philanthropy by creating an industry standard for assessment of impact. If we are successful, we anticipate that other firms will shift into this industry and that an impact audit could become a de facto requirement for nonprofits.
